Capabilities
Adding value to
the stages of a Project
-
FPS has seen companies buy off-the-shelf software (e.g.
ERP systems) and then spend (aided and abetted by the vendor) £millions
translating their requirements into configuration design documents. Spend
too little time on this activity and you risk implementing a system which is
loose fitting, spend too much and the law of diminishing returns applies.
-
FPS has sufficient experience and business know-how to
ensure that our clients do not suffer from paralysis by analysis and spend
too much money and time on pre-implementation activities.
-
FPS has developed bespoke Project Management tools and
even a fully functional secure Electronic Document Management system. This
background in software engineering coupled with our virtual office approach
to business is particularly useful during the implementation, test and
roll-out phases of a project. Our basic understanding of how these
applications are engineered is useful in gauging whether a supplier is
correct when they assert that something is impossible. Perhaps most
importantly, FPS knows how to test software applications to a commercial
standard; our independence of your suppliers gives you confidence that
testing will be rigorous and complete.
-
Roll-out of major implementations is a stressful time for
all concerned especially when the ability to pay staff salary and expenses
could be compromised. FPS expect to be retained to ensure a smooth
transition to new business processes and systems prior to hand-over of the
systems to routine maintenance and support. During this stage the FPS
project manager will be determining facts about the system and the ability
of the users to exploit it efficiently. Knowledge of these facts helps
business leaders take appropriate action to facilitate a rapid transition.
Transformational change
FPS generally defines Transformational Change
as the achievement of a desired state of operation that fully exploits the
capabilities of the implemented system in achieving the business benefits
articulated in the Business Case. Post-rollout FPS Project Managers are often
retained to facilitate Transformational Change helping the client to be as
self-sufficient as possible in achieving business benefits. A key enabler is to
help staff understand all the business processes associated with the implemented
system including those which remove bottlenecks in workflow, maintain joiners
leavers and mover staff records, and accommodate unexpected occurrences in the
business. Giving your staff confidence that they can cope with any eventuality
is a key element of transformation, and in this respect whilst FPS doesn’t
employ a sink or swim attitude we do discourage an over-reliance on consultants
(including us) and third-party suppliers.
